I have no problem with the command line or editing config files when necessary. I am looking for hints/suggestions of what driver I should use and any software that should be installed for improvement of the display and to possibly get compiz to work. I have never had a PCIe card and know nothing about them.

It does seem to change a few things such as ctrl-alt-left/right key brings up a block of windows to change but that is about it.

I have also downloaded the driver from ATI, which said I didn't have the appropriate hardware (?), have tried the firmware-linux-free/nonfree drivers and I still can't get compiz to run. I have searched here and read a bunch of threads and followed their links. The question is how do I take advantage of the card? I would like to try compiz and to get the most out of the card and the computer. I think I have all of the pertinent info listed. I am running Testing (wheezy) with Kernel 2.6.32-5-amd64. The specs for the board (from the back of the box) Model: R5450-MD1GH GPU ATI Radeon HD 5450 Memory Size: 1GB DDR3 Memory bus: 64 bits Output: HDMI/DVI/D-sub. The card is an MSI R5450 with 1 gb ddr3, PCIe x16, connected to the monitor via hdmi. Since upgrading I now have an AMD Phenom II x4 955 processor, 4 gigs of ram and a new motherboard and graphics card. I always had an inexpensive card and just used the standard driver. I have finally upgraded my old computer and have a question.
